So, I've been off Instagram for a while because... So, I've been off Instagram for a while because.... I had a baby! It's been a pretty wild year, just not in the travelling, vetting kind of way that I am used to. More in the sleep deprivation, cleaning poop kind of way, but as an oncall vet I guess I was kinda used to that already 😅 It's been great, but now I have a little more time to myself I am so keen to get back to sharing more international vet stories. Volunteering overseas may be on the backburner for me just now, but I have a whole bunch of international vet interviews and new volunteer opportunities to share from the vet community. And while I've been away, TheRunawayVet.com stats have come in- you guys want more articles on - volunteering as a vet 🐶 - working overseas 🛩 - international vet nursing👩‍⚕️ - overcoming adversity to get into vet school 💪 So, stay tuned, and let's all share our adventures!
My favourite view of the morning commute 🎈 We' My favourite view of the morning commute 🎈 We've moved to Melbourne, and I've been doing some locum work in the suburbs. . This is the 6th vet clinic I've worked in while in Australia, and I do find it quite different to the clinical vet work I'm used to in Scotland. . Sometimes, I pick a locum job because for the clin Sometimes, I pick a locum job because for the clinical experience. But more often, I choose a job for the location! . My most recent locum role was in Queensland, Australia, with some of the worlds most amazing beaches right on our doorstep. . Locuming is such a great way for vets and nurses to travel while they earn! . Have you been a veterinary locum? Where have you worked?
~Port Macquarie Koala Hospital~ What an awesome p ~Port Macquarie Koala Hospital~ What an awesome place! The Port Macquarie koala hospital rescues, rehabilitates and releases koalas from across the state. They have full veterinary facilities on site for treatments, and once animals are recovering they are moved into beautiful outdoor enclosures and gradually released back to the bush. And they take volunteers! Both local and international vet students and animal carers can apply to join them in a number of roles. The hospital was well worth a visit and left me feeling so inspired by their amazing conservation effort!
The Shark and Ray Rescue Centre, on the Port Steph The Shark and Ray Rescue Centre, on the Port Stephens Peninsula, was such an interesting stop on our roadtrip today. . The centre rescues and rehabilitates marine species that are caught up the by-catch of the local fishing industry. . These animals are rehabilitated at the centre, allowed to grow to a safe size, then go on to educational institutes and aquariums around the country to help more Australians learn about marine conservation. . Unfortunately, the animals rescued can never go back to the wild as they become habituated and risk spreading disease back to wild populations.
