Are you interested in volunteering your time with ethical animal charities, shelters and projects around the world?

There are a lot of genuine organisations out there that need the help of volunteers. But how can you tell which projects are the real deal, and which ones are best avoided? And how do you know which one will be the best fit for your particular skills and experience?

These are questions I struggled with since before I even graduated, and the sheer amount of information out there left me feeling overwhelmed and unmotivated.

What I wanted was a genuine, unbiased resource to help me find ethical volunteer opportunities. I wanted to read honest, first-hand experiences of volunteers who had been already been to these shelters. I wanted to know where I would stay, how much it would cost, which species I’d work with and which skills I’d need before I signed up for projects. I wanted to ensure I’d be safe to travel to these destinations as a woman. And most of all, I wanted to make sure I was supporting ethical projects that weren’t just businesses masquerading as charities.

And that’s exactly why I created this website.

On this page, you’ll find a load of links that will help you discover the answers to the questions above, and more. There’s profiles about the projects that I’ve visited, interviews with recent volunteers, location guides, and even tips to help you plan your trip.

And how did I gather all this information? All these volunteer opportunities are places that I, or occasionally my close friends, have visited ourselves. The interviews are from face-to-face chats and phone-calls I had with real people. And the location guides and tips are based on what I loved most about living in these unusual areas.
